Roulette is a game that is simple to learn but takes a lifetime to master. Here is the lowdown, the roulette table has numbers on it that correspond to the numbers on the wheel. The wheel has 38 spaces on it, 18 red spaces and 18 black spaces and two green spaces for zero and the dreaded double zero. You can bet either on red, black, odd, even or ranges of numbers (1-18 or 19-36).
These bets are clearly marked on the roulette table, no worries, you can place bets even after the ball drops, the croupier (dealer) will let you know when it’s too late to drop any chips down. You know the rest, the ball spins on the wheel and then finally drops into one of the colorful slots, after which the croupier will call out the number and chips will change hands. Okay, now that we have the basics, let’s get down to some serious strategy.
Let’s start off with a classic the Martingale Strategy. This is a risky proposition, the lowdown here is that the player would double his bet after each loss, thus hoping to recoup the damages from any subsequent win with a tidy profit to boot. Nice in theory but this strategy almost never works and has been the ruin of many a gamer. I bring this system up to remind you that things can sound great in theory but are terrible to practice.
Let’s move on to a system that might work better for you. The “Experiment” a cool system devised by the ingenious Andres Martinez is much more sound. Basically you split your bankroll into 35 equal lumps. You drop each lump on a single number for the next 35 spins. The thought behind this is that if you hit your number during that time you can play the rest of your spins with house chips. Now, if you happen to lose your chips after the 35 spins, well you’ve had a blast playing a nice long game of roulette right? Sure, the probability of hitting your number in 35 spins is over half, so it’s not foolproof. I am a big fan of this particular strategy, it has worked for me, and the nights it hasn’t, were some of the most enjoyable times I’ve had at the tables.
Another strategy that people try is betting on red. Much like the experiment, a gamer picks a number of times to play red in succession, more than likely they’d pick 38 because there are 38 spaces on the table and their counting on that ball to drop at least half the time on red. When you think about it, there are 18 red spaces and that would work out to roughly half at odds that you could pull out 18 hits on red during 38 spins, right? Well yes and no. Mathematically speaking, this makes sense thanks to binomial distribution, or in other words the probability of winning streaks.
This logic can also be applied to betting on black after all, there are an equal number of spaces, but there are two to one odds on red, making it a bit more attractive to apply this strategy. When all is said and done this method provides a good shot at least hitting a few times. I’ve done well with this system too, I like to do a blend of this and dropping on odd or even for a succession of spins just so I don’t feel like I’m putting all my eggs in one basket. Remember, the idea is to stick with something for a period of time to give the law of probability a chance to work it’s magic. Play with house money when you get it, don’t get greedy and most importantly, have fun!
Rules of Online American Roulette
The American Roulette wheel is made of 37 segments numbered from zero to 36. The roulette table (which in case of multiplayer online roulette seats up to six players) is oftent attender by a live dealer who spins the wheel in one direction and a small white ball goes in the other.
The aim of the game is to guess in which numbered segment the ball will come to rest.
Roulette Betting Strategy
Many authors and engineers have written books about beating the roulette. I'm going to choose
Betting Only On Red Slots
One roulette strategy would be to bet on the ball landing in a red space for a certain number of spins, for example, 38.
There are 18 red spaces on an online roulette table with 38 total spaces. Dividing 18 by 38 yields a probability of landing on red of 47.37%. This probability can be used in a binomial distribution and made into an approximate standard normal distribution.
Doing so indicates that, if one were to spin the wheel 38 times, there is a 99% probability that the ball would land on red at least 10 times. There is an 83% probability that in 38 spins, the ball will land on red at least 15 times. Out of 38 spins, there\'s a 50% chance that 18 will be red.
However, the break-even point is 19 spins, since the bet on red is 1:1, and the probability of 19 red spins in 38 is only 37%. This indicates the difficulty of winning by only betting on red.
The results occur because, as indicated by the 18 divided by 38 equals 47.37% figure, the ball will land on red less than half the time. This percentage applied in the binomial and standard normal distributions creates the vast divide in probability from 18 red spins to 19 red spins out of 38 spins. It is very unlikely for anyone to spin much more than 18 red spins out of 38 spins.
